FAQs About the Library

About Borrowing

Q. What do I need to get a library card?

A. To get a library card, ask the clerk at the circulation desk for a registration card. Once your card is filled out, we will need to see an ID or something recent with your current address listed on it (like a utility bill) to complete the process. Cards are free for all residents, though minors will need a parent’s signature to complete the process. You can also register for a Library card online.

Q. Do you charge fines or late fees?

A. As of 2021, we no longer charge fines for items checked out from our Library. However, we do still charge a replacement fee for lost or damaged materials. If you have damaged an item or believe that you have lost one, please speak to a librarian to discuss options for repayment.

Q. How can I renew items?

A. Checked out items can be renewed up to two times IF there are no additional holds on the item. Items will automatically renew if they are eligible about 3 days before their due date. If you would like to renew an item yourself, log into your MHLS account.

Q. Do you offer home delivery?

A. While we absolutely love our building, we understand that not everyone can easily make it to the Library on a regular basis. Our homebound patrons are vital members of this community, and we are eager to serve them as best we can.

We are teaming up with the Friends of the Library to begin home delivery for those who cannot regularly get to the Library. Those who register can expect regular delivery of requested books and DVDs to their home. Simply complete the form online or call us at (518) 758-6192 to have one mailed to you. Our eager volunteers will get you set up.

About Other Services

Q. Is WiFi available at the library?

A. If you have your own laptop or device, feel free to sign on to our free WiFi network “KPL Public”. Our WiFi is available 24/7. If the Library is closed for the day, feel free to sign onto the WiFi from an outdoor location, such as our public benches or back patio.

Q. How do I use the public computers?

A. Patrons can use any of our public computers located throughout the Library free of charge. Our public computers are equipped with software designed for patron privacy. Once the computers are shut down, any information is automatically deleted. If you are concerned about privacy, please speak Librarian and we can help you!

Q. Can I make photocopies?

A. Our copy machine is located near the DVD collection. Copies are $.25 each, and the machine can take change or bills. Unfortunately, we cannot do color copies at this time.

Q. How much does it cost to print or fax?

A. Speak to a clerk if you would like to print from one of our computers or send a fax. These services are by donation, up to 50 pages; after that, we charge $.20/page. At this time, we are only able to print in black and white.
