Emergent Literacy Workshop for Preschool Teachers and Caregivers

Filed In:

A love of books and reading is the best gift we can give our children. It is a gift that will last a lifetime.

Join us for a free workshop on Friday May 21st geared for preschool teachers and caregivers of children birth through 5 years. Author Jennie Birckmayer, expert in early literacy, will discuss the importance of emergent literacy in young children and what you as preschool teachers and caregivers can do to foster it. Children’s author Jennifer Griffin will demonstrate and present songs from her book Humpty Who? : A Crash Course in Nursery Rhymes for Clueless Moms and Dads to use in your preschool or daycare setting. Amy Thiel, Youth Services Coordinator, will offer a tour of the library, including how to use the library’s services to help you get the job done! We’ll also explore the library for useful materials and share our selection with the group. Blackwood and Brower will provide a selection of books and other materials for purchase. Participants will earn training credit from the Child Care Council of Columbia and Greene Counties.

Pizza and refreshments provided. Please note that while we love children this workshop is for adults only! This workshop is free and open to the public.

Please signup by clicking below, calling the library or at the circulation desk.

If the weather is bad we’ll bring our afternoon indoors…and you’ll be required to eat who knows what! Be sure to wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy. And parents, better bring some towels and plastic for the car!
