January 23 @ 8:00 am - January 29 @ 5:00 pm

KINDERHOOK LIBRARY HIRES NEW DIRECTOR

The Board of Trustees of Kinderhook Memorial Library has hired Matthew
Pavloff to be Library Director, effective February 11, 2022. He succeeds AnnaLee Dragon who has accepted the position of Executive Director of the New York Library Association (NYLA). Dragon has served with distinction as Director of the Library for 10 years.

In announcing Pavloff’s appointment, Board President Gary Spielmann said,
“The goal of our search was to find a dynamic library professional with vision and enthusiasm for the Library’s role in enriching our community. We have found that person in Matthew Pavloff. He has served as Teen Services Librarian, IT specialist, volunteer coordinator, fundraising assistant, office manager and assistant library director.”

“We are fortunate to have had Matthew as a key staff person for the past nine years. He has been instrumental in helping grow our library’s services and expanding our reach into the communities of Kinderhook and Stuyvesant.

“He has taken the lead in reaching out to adolescents and their families in both towns. He established a Teen Advisory Board and helped design and outfit the Teen Room in our new and expanded library building. Matt serves as Vice President of the Mid-Hudson Battle of the Books and has
helped build a summer reading program which involves 25 libraries and 400 participants. His range of hands-on experience covers the spectrum of library operations and he has consistently performed at the highest level.”

Aside from the daily management of the facilities, Pavloff has completed the NYLA Empowerment, Advocacy and Leadership Academy (EALA). That program is designed to prepare youth service librarians to take more active roles in the leadership of their libraries. Pavloff holds a Master of Science degree in Library Science- Library Media Specialist from the State University of New York at Buffalo and two Bachelor of Arts degrees from SUNY Albany and SUNY Fredonia respectively. He joined the Kinderhook Memorial Library staff in 2012.

Pavloff is expected to move the library into evermore sustainable practices
so that it becomes more resilient in the face of environmental, social and economic challenges.

“It is gratifying to see one of our longest-serving employees become the
next director of our library., Spielmann concluded. “Matthew has earned this promotion to the top job because he has earned the respect and admiration of our patrons, our staff and our Board of Trustees. “ He will build on the great achievements of his mentor, AnnaLee Dragon while charting his own course forward. I truly believe the best days of the Kinderhook Memorial Library are ahead of us.”
