This insightful program is a chance to explore the novels that have been making headlines in recent years due to challenges in schools and public libraries across the country. Each month\, we’ll be reading one challenged title and discussing not only the stories\, but the controversy surrounding them as well as the broad concept of censorship. \nJoin us for a discussion of Patricia McCormick’s 2006 novel Sold. Told in a series of haunting vignettes\, SOLD is a harrowing account of a sexual slavery. Alternating lyrical imagery with precise detail\, McCormick gives voice to the terror and bewilderment of a young girl robbed of her childhood but who finds the strength to triumph. \nThis program is made possible through a generous grant from the Mid-Hudson Library System.

SUMMARY:Severe Weather Preparedness Seminar
DESCRIPTION:With severe weather events becoming more frequent and more extreme\, it is more important than ever that New Yorkers are prepared for disasters. The NY Citizen Preparedness Training Program teaches residents to have the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster\, respond accordingly and recover as quickly as possible to normal conditions. This training course will provide an introduction to responding to a natural or manmade disaster. Participants will be advised on how to properly prepare for any disaster\, including developing a family emergency plan and stocking up on emergency supplies. Each family that attends will receive one preparedness kit. \nRegistration is required\, so use this link to sign up today.
