Sustainability Policy

The Kinderhook Memorial Library is committed to taking steps to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Library and of the community we serve. To this end, the Library will incorporate the interrelated principles of environmental stewardship, social equity and financial feasibility throughout our policies
and practices. This includes:

  • Operating the Library in a manner that conserves natural resources, reduces waste, and reuses and recycles to the maximum extent possible.
  • Recruiting staff, trustees and volunteers who reflect the community we serve and are committed to implementing sustainability principles.
  • Emphasizing energy efficiency and environmental wellness in the maintenance of the building and grounds.
  • Maintaining an efficient collection that is responsive to the interests and needs of the community and is inclusive of diverse voices and points of view.
  • Offering programs and services that are accessible to all and address diverse needs and interests.
  • Prioritizing environmentally and socially responsible purchasing, while ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of the Library.
  • Aligning our investment policy with our values and sustainability efforts.
  • Entering into partnerships that allow us to advance our own goals and those of our partners in order to have a greater, collective impact on the resiliency of our community.
