On view through Thursday, November 30, 2023 Artist Jean Mackay opens her sketchbooks to share paintings that capture the nature of Columbia County throughout the year; works will be available for purchase. An opening reception and chance to meet the artist will take place at 2:30pm on Sunday, November 5.
The Nutty Scientists are back, this time to teach us about worm composting, or ‘vermiculture’! Kids will learn all about how worms help break down waste and keep our planet healthy! Kids will also be making their own vermiculture composter using live worms! Recommended for children ages 6-11. Space is limited.
Tell us what to do! Earn community service hours by helping us improve the Library for teens! TAB advises on resources for teens and helps plan future events. TAB is open to Grades 7-12, and every meeting gets you an hour of community service. Meetings are twice a month during the school year. (And by the way, we have snacks!)
If you love to crochet and find yourself with some extra yarn, consider donating your time to a cause! We’re asking crafters from the community to join us as we use up the last of our yarn and crochet as many granny squares as we can. Bring these squares to the library and we’ll have more volunteers ready to turn these squares into beautiful patchwork afghans for donation! Join us for an hour of stories, songs, gentle movement, and a craft! This program, originally held at the Stuyvesant Town Hall, will take place in the meeting room of the library.
Join us for our series of story times with our very own local heroes, our first responders! We will host the Stuyvesant Fire Department on Friday, November 10th at 1:00pm at the Stuyvesant Town Hall. Paramedics and fire fighters from each company will be there to show off their equipment and give us tips on how to stay safe!
In honor of Veteran’s Day, author and historian Dr. Michael Robbins will be at the library to discuss the history of World War I and its far-reaching consequences. Copies of his book Lest We Forget: The Great War will be available for sale and signing.
