Statement of Purpose In order to provide information about the history of the area served by Kinderhook Memorial Library, the library will collect and maintain resources which provide information and context for patrons researching the history of the Library’s service area, specifically Kinderhook and Stuyvesant Falls, New York. Due to space restrictions and the wealth of archives of historical records and resources within the local geographic area, the collection of materials that reference Columbia County and/or the Hudson Valley generally, will be limited. Kinderhook Memorial Library strives to provide a warm, welcoming and safe environment for all community members. The Library is particularly concerned for the safety of vulnerable adults in and around the Library. A vulnerable adult is defined as an individual over the age of 18 who is mentally or physically challenged to a degree that significantly impairs the individual’s ability to provideadequately for their own care or manage their own behavior without assistance. The Kinderhook Memorial Library recognizes the importance of utilizing the assistance of volunteers to enhance and expand the services of the Library. In enlisting volunteers, the Kinderhook Memorial Library shall not use volunteers to supplant library staff but to enrich library services in a comprehensive manner making its services available to the entire public through a coordinated volunteer/staff effort. A volunteer is a person who performs tasks for the Kinderhook Memorial Library without wages, benefits, or compensation (including travel expenses) of any kind. The Kinderhook Memorial Library welcomes people of all ages to use its facilities, services and resources. In an effort to provide a Library environment that allows all patrons to utilize Library materials and information sources in a safe, relaxed manner, the Library Board of Trustees has adopted a policy statement concerning unattended or disruptive children. The purpose of meetings of the Kinderhook Memorial Library Board of Trustees is to conduct Library business. The Board also designates a portion of each of its regularly scheduled meetings to hear public comments. Meetings are typically held on the third Tuesday of the month, starting at 7:00 p.m., in the Library meeting room at 18 Hudson Street, Kinderhook. The Board does not meet in August. Advanced notice will be provided on the Library’s website if a meeting has been cancelled or rescheduled or will be conducted via video conference.
